MRU-M-MB3
The MRU-M-MB3 is a motion reference unit commonly used for roll and pitch measurements in offshore riser monitoring systems, dynamic positioning systems, telecommunication antenna systems, and motion damping systems on high-speed ships. The device must be mounted in a fixed orientation relative to the vessel and is best suited for applications with limited roll and pitch range. In addition, it can also perform logic level sorting under the control of the backplane’s logic level sorting signal.
The MRU-M-MB3 uses a built-in gyroscope and accelerometer to measure roll and pitch. These sensors are capable of detecting and measuring the movement of the vessel on the water, including rolling and pitching.
Specifically, the gyroscope can detect the rotational motion of the ship around its vertical axis, known as roll. When a ship rolls, the gyroscope detects the angular velocity due to the ship’s motion and converts it into an electrical signal. This electrical signal can be further processed and converted into the ship’s roll Angle.
Accelerometers, on the other hand, can detect the movement of the boat on a vertical axis, known as pitching. When a ship pitches, the accelerometer detects the acceleration due to the ship’s motion and converts it into an electrical signal. This electrical signal can be further processed and converted into the pitch Angle of the ship.
By processing and calculating the output signals of gyroscope and accelerometer, the ship’s roll and pitch angles can be obtained, so that the roll and pitch can be measured.
