The 1785-L40B is a programmable logic controller (PLC) assembly. This product is a controller of PLC5 series. Installed on PLC5 chassis such as 1771-A1B, 1771-A2B, 1771-A3B, 1771-A3B1, and 1771-A4B.

The controller is ideal for medium to large automation applications as it has a built-in 48KWords user memory capable of handling any combination of I/O devices, a total number of 2048 points or 2048 input and 2048 output devices for supplemental configuration. With increased I/O capacity, the controller can also handle up to 29 PLC 5 racks, consisting of 1 local rack and 28 remote I/O racks. Local rack refers to the rack where the controller resides.

The controller also has built-in four (4)DH+ or remote I/O(adapter or scanner) combo ports, and one (1) serial port that can be configured with RS-232 and 423 and RS-422A communication standards. Each combined port can be used for a separate network, allowing the controller to implement four (4) separate DH+ / RIO networks. Serial communication channels allow point-to-point interfaces, which are also ideal for short-range communication.

An additional EEPROM or backup memory device can be installed as the controller’s non-volatile memory. Available memory cards are 16K word 1785-ME16, 532k word 1785-ME32, 64K word 1785-ME64, and 100K word 1785-ME100.
