The IMC-S/23x Compact Motion controller is a compact, rugged, microprocessor-based two – or four-axis servo motion controller. The IMC-S/23x contains both logic and field power supplies to provide fully programmable independent motion and logic controllers for a variety of industrial applications.
Used in conjunction with an external drive system and feedback encoder, the IMC-S/23x provides two – or four-axis closed-loop point-to-point positioning with contour (trapezoid, parabolic or S-curve), speed, acceleration and deceleration control, and multi-axis, circular or helical interpolation. The electronic drive feature allows any shaft to be attached to another shaft with a programmable drive ratio. The electronic CAM function allows coordination of the motion curve, which is a function of the time or position of the other axis. Advanced phase shifting, auto-registration and auto-correction features make many complex movements and synchronizations easy to program. Universal discrete I/O, analog input, analog output, etc. Flex I/O modules are provided by Allen-Bradley direct connection. The IMC-S/23x can connect up to eight Flex I/O modules, providing a total of 128 discrete I/O points. Analog inputs and outputs can replace discrete I/O modules to increase I/O flexibility. Application programming for the IMC-S/23x is suitable for any application and is done through Allen-Bradley’s unique graphics motion control language, GML. With GML, more than 100 different commands can be used to fully customize the operation of IMC-S/23x for your specific application. Complete applications are downloaded to IMC-S/23x via field-configurable RS-232C or RS-422 ports and stored in non-volatile memory (write-protected battery backup RAM). Complete connection diagnostics and automatic servo setup program for self-adjusting servo parameters make setting up the IMC-S/23x quick and easy.
A dedicated serial port for the human machine interface (MMI) is available for field configuration for RS-232C, RS-422 or Allen-Bradley DH-485 communication. MMI devices are connected via an AT-compatible DB-9 connector (RS-232C or RS-422) or an RJ-45 connector (DH-485), both located on the front panel. The Remote I/O option allows the IMC-S/23x to communicate with other Allen-Bradley devices via remote I/O. Motion controllers can communicate directly with A-B PLCS using discrete and block transmissions. The AxisLink option allows the shaft on other IMC-S class controllers or ALEC (AxisLink encoder Converter module) to be used as a spindle for electronic gears and cams. This capability provides real-time coordination for distributed multi-axis systems in electronic drives, cams, bobbins, and synchronization applications.
