489-P5-LO-A20-E is an Agdo wire relay in the GE SR series of relays (in the same family as GE Multiwire 469 motor protection relays and GE Multiwire 735 feeder protection relays). The 489-P5-LO-A20-E is designed for generator protection and can be used in induction or synchronous generators. The device can operate at 25, 50 or 60 Hertz.

The 489-P5-LO-A20-E is designed with a 40-character display that allows users to view numerical information, diagnostics, and set values. The front panel includes a numeric keypad, status indicator, numerical up and down keys, RS232 port interfaces, and control and programming keys including reset, input, menu, menu Up, and menu Down keys. This allows control without being connected to an external computer.

The backplane includes 12 RTD inputs, 6 output relays, 2 RS485 communication ports, and 4 VT inputs. RTD is field programmable. Communication ports can use ModbusRTU or DNP 3.0 protocols up to 19200 bps (or both).
